Overview
Google's Nexus 7 tablet was revealed on June 27, 2012 at the Google I/O, a yearly developer conference hosted by Google. The Nexus 7 consists of a 7 inch display and a Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, making it the most powerful tablet on the market. In 2012, the Nexus 7 won both Gadget of the Year
and Tablet of the Year
defeating multiple of its high end competition, such as the Apple iPhone 4S, iPad, and Samsung's Galaxy Tab.
Software
The Nexus 7 was released with Android 4.1, also known as Jelly Bean. Google has since updated the device with Android 4.2, also called Jelly Bean. Android Jelly Bean was a much welcomed update, bringing pull-down notification bars and homescreen update, among others. As a Google Nexus device, the Nexus 7 offers a "pure Android" experience, as it features the stock Android operating system, free of manufacturer or wireless carrier modifications like custom graphical user interfaces that exist in other Android devices.
Hardware
The Nexus 7 has a 7 inch IPS LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 1280 x 800. The screen is constructed out of scratch-resistant glass developed by Corning Glass.
The Nexus 7 also uses the Nvidia Tegra 3 Processor. This processor offers a 1.3 GHz Cortex-A9 quad-core central processing unit
which is the same chip that Apple uses in their iPhones.
